Maya Horgan Famodu – Nominated for Young Executive to Watch Under 40 at the MOI Awards

Maya Horgan Famodu is a foundational architect of Nigeria’s tech funding ecosystem. A
Nigerian-American entrepreneur, her visionary journey began when she observed the significant
challenges her friends faced in securing funding for their businesses.

Instead of waiting for a solution to appear, she made it her mission to “be the solution”. In 2017, at the age of 25, she founded Ingressive Capital, a venture capital firm dedicated to investing in early-stage startups across Sub-Saharan Africa’s key tech markets.

The strategic growth and influence of Ingressive Capital under her leadership have been crucial to the ecosystem’s development. The firm has backed some of the continent’s fastest-growing companies, including Paystack, a company that was later acquired by Stripe for over $200 million.

The firm’s Fund I has realized four acquisitions, showcasing its ability to identify and nurture high-potential ventures.

The fund’s approach is disciplined and impactful, with 60% of its Fund I entry valuations at or below $5 million and a remarkable 50% of its portfolio companies becoming Y Combinator alumni.

Horgan Famodu’s impact on industry and society is expansive. She is committed to driving global investments into Africa’s tech ecosystem and ensuring every African youth has the
resources to build scalable businesses.

To further this mission, she co-founded Ingressive for Good, a non-profit that has trained hundreds of thousands of African youths in technical skills, providing scholarships and talent placement.

Her firm also maintains a commitment to social impact, with a portfolio that includes approximately 40% female co-founders and 100% of companies having indigenous equity owners. Her efforts have been recognized with prestigious awards, including a two-time honor on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.

Horgan Famodu is an exemplary nominee because she is a visionary who built a crucial piece of
the African tech ecosystem.

By providing capital, mentorship, and technical training, she is not just investing in startups; she is building the foundation for future generations of African entrepreneurs and actively working to create a more inclusive and prosperous future.
