Hope Behind Bars Africa is a social enterprise committed to advancing justice reform and supporting incarcerated individuals in Nigeria.
Founded in 2018, the organization works at the intersection of human rights, legal aid, and rehabilitation, providing legal support to indigent inmates while advocating for systemic change within the criminal justice system.
Through its Justice Reform Project, Hope Behind Bars Africa has provided free legal representation to hundreds of detainees, many of whom were held unjustly or without trial. Beyond legal aid, the enterprise also focuses on rehabilitation and reintegration.
Through vocational training, mental health support, and empowerment programs for ex-inmates, it ensures that justice is not only punitive but also restorative. Its campaigns on prison decongestion and human rights have sparked critical policy discussions at both state and national levels.
As a nominee for Social Enterprise of the Year, Hope Behind Bars Africa exemplifies the power of social innovation in justice. Its work brings hope, dignity, and second chances to some of society’s most forgotten individuals.
