Aishat Yesufu – Nominated for Citizen of The Year

Aisha Yesufu has become one of Nigeria’s most fearless voices for justice, accountability, and good governance. A co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls movement, she rose to national prominence in 2014 by demanding the safe return of the Chibok schoolgirls, but her activism has only grown stronger over the years.

In 2020, Yesufu’s iconic stance during the #EndSARS protests became a global symbol of resilience, capturing the spirit of a generation demanding change. Her continued advocacy in 2024 has kept her at the center of Nigeria’s civic movement whether it’s speaking against government excesses, demanding reforms in education and healthcare, or challenging young Nigerians to take responsibility for shaping the nation’s future.

Her influence extends far beyond protests. Through public speaking, mentorship, and grassroots mobilization, Yesufu has inspired thousands of young people to engage in active citizenship, using their voices to demand a fairer society. She remains unafraid to call out injustice, regardless of who is in power.
