Tunde Onakoya

Tunde Onakoya – Nominated for Entrepreneur of the Year Award at MOI Awards 2025

Tunde Onakoya has redefined what it means to be an entrepreneur by building a social enterprise that transforms lives at the grassroots.

As the founder of Chess in Slums Africa, he took an unconventional idea using chess as a tool for education, empowerment, and social mobility and turned it into a thriving movement that has gained international recognition.

Through this initiative, Tunde has created a sustainable model of social entrepreneurship: bridging gaps in education, raising global partnerships, and building a brand rooted in impact rather than profit alone.

By teaching chess in underserved communities, he has provided hundreds of children with scholarships, mentorship, and pathways to better futures. His ability to leverage creativity, storytelling, and strategic partnerships has positioned Chess in Slums Africa as one of the most inspiring social ventures in Africa today.

In 2024, his Guinness World Record chess marathon in New York not only spotlighted the resilience of the African spirit but also raised substantial funds to scale his mission. What began as a grassroots passion project has now grown into a globally recognized enterprise that combines innovation with purpose.
