Dr. Sam Jonah — Nominated for the Lifetime Achievement in Industry Leadership Award at the MOI Awards

Dr. Sam Jonah is a legendary mining magnate and a globally recognised business leader. His
career began in 1969 at the Obuasi gold mine, and by 1986, he was appointed CEO of Ashanti
Goldfields Company Limited.

His bold vision transformed the company from a single-mine operation into a multinational with listings in London and Ghana, and he made history in 1996 by becoming the first operating African company to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Jonah’s influence is unparalleled. CNN and Time Magazine ranked him as one of the world’s top
25 most influential businesspeople in 2004, a testament to his global standing. His results-driven
mindset and contributions to Ghana’s development have earned him five Lifetime Achievement
awards, Ghana’s highest national honor (Companion of the Order of the Star), and an honorary
knighthood from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
